Path Remains is an aged Liu Bao tea from 2002.
Liu Bao is a dark tea, or a black tea, characterised by its fermentation and wet piling process that regards it as a close counterpart to pu’er tea.
This genre of tea was the precursor to Shou pu’er tea, from back in the 50s and 60s, when producers were trying to speed up and replicate the effects of naturally aged sheng pu’er.
Liu Bao was known as the people’s tea throughout Hong Kong and Malaysia for its once cheaper price point and accessibility, as it was produced in larger quantities and sold for considerably lesser as the pu’er market began to skyrocket. It’s typical to see these teas piled and stored in big woven baskets of 10-50kg.
This tea was produced by CNNP, whom were amongst the leading producers of pu’er tea throughout the 80s - early 2000s, and stored in dry conditions in Taiwan since 2010.
Personally, this is what I would consider to be the desired result of a well produced, well aged and well stored dark tea.
Surrendered in nature, Path Remains is a wonderfully yin tea that is encompassed by a sweet and soft earthen profile, clarified by its impeccable dry storage. It is softening on the nervous system, with a sharpening cha qi.
Deep, clean & balanced.
